WONDERFUL! Sometimes its hard to relate to those who ARE Preggers & Those who are TRYING to get preggers. I am soooo excited about being a Mom. I cant wait to get Preg. What are some "ways" TTCers are trying? Eating habits, methods, positions , Ect. I am confused on the Vitamin subject. I am not sure which ones to take before & then when I do become Preg. So hows it going?? LOL
Well I cant really say anything about TTC but as far as vitamins go I have always heard that if you are trying to get pregnant you should take a prenatal vitamin. Plus they do make your hair and nails grow nicely. But my mom says they make you fat lol.
Well thats not good news... I am already "Pleasantly Plump" so I wont be likeing that part of the vit. The only way I will be enjoying gaining weight is if there is a baby in me..
I got to talk to my hubby today on the computer and I turned on the web cam so he could see my belly. He said wow are we having twins. lol I said no but hurt my feelings anyway

As for vitamins, you should take folic acid, or prenatal vitamins containing folic acid (most of them do) every day. Folic acid is encouraged by the march of dimes foundation, because it is proven to decrease the risk of Spinal and nerual tube defects. You can get prenatal vitamins OTC at any pharmacy, and most of them have folic acid, if not you can find it at places like GNC. You need about 800 mcg per day of folic acid, be sure not to exceed 1000 mcg. After you get pregnant, just keep taking the prenatal vitamins.
well, like i always say, i TOTALLY recommend reading the book in my sig, bc it has SO much info on the conception process! Lemmie give you the basics, for boy and girl conception, and even if you dont want to choose the sex, you will leave this post knowing a little more!
The basics in the book are:
Ok. Basically, the difference is the sperm. The "boy" sperm, or Y chromasome carrying sperm, are smaller, and faster, and weaker than the X carrying , larger, slower, but stronger "girl" sperm. Because of this, there are ways to help or hinder the conception of either sex.
Trying for a girl, you want to have sex every day starting the day your period stops, and STOP having sex about 3 days BEFORE ovulation. Naturally you will need to chart your ovulation to do so. (more on that in a sec.) The reason for this, is because, at the time of ovulation, the secretions in the vagina are more alkaline, and much easier for the weaker male sperm to travel through. But before ovulation, the secretions are more acidic, and tougher for the male sperm to survive. While the girl sperms are slower, they are tougher, and more likely to survive the harsh climate. So ttc a boy, you should have sex close to and on the day of and after ovulation.
Sexual positioning....trying for a boy, you should have sex in the "doggy style" position, and make sure when hubby or S.O. ejaculates, he is giving as deep of penetration as possible. This ensures that the sperm are deposited close to the cervix, where the secretions are less harsh than the lower vaginal ones, and they have a shorter distance to travel.
For a girl, the opposite. Missionary positioning is best, and at time of ejaculation, the man should do shallow penetration. This way the male sperm have much more of a hard time getting through the vagina, through the cervix, through the uterus, and up the tube. They will go faster than the girls, but most of them wont make it, and the girls stand a better chance from that penetration depth.
Other factors to consider are :
caffeine. caffiene lowers sperm count in men. Since the "male " sperm are weaker, they are the first to go when outside conditions affect sperm count. Your mate should drink some coffee or other caffienated drinks before intercourse if you are trying for a girl. If you want a boy, no caffiene.
Temperature. Your mate should not take a hot bath or hot shower shortly before intercourse if trying for a boy. it lowers sperm count slightly. For a girl, a hot soak in the tub is ideal before interourse.
Male orgasms. If you want a girl, you want to make sure the hubby's spermcount is lower also, because the less fast male sperm there are, the better. so he should have at least one orgasm every day for several days. If you want a boy, make him abstain from orgasm until the day you decide to try.
Hmm. thats all i can think of for now....i will write more if i think of it.
Ok charting your ovulation.
Look up on google, ways to chart your BBT, or basal body temperature, CM charting, or "cervical mucous charting", and ovuscope, or ovulite(a small microscope that reads saliva to determine ovulation.)
these things can help you to determine your ovulation time, and konw when to time intercourse etc. hope that helps!
* Edit. I just remembered something else that can hinder your conception chances, caffeine. (for you, not hubby.)
Quoted from Shettles' book:
"Studies relased in 1995 reported that caffeine significantly impedes overall female fertility. A Johns Hopkins University study found that women who consume 300 milligrams of caffeine per day (about the amouth you get in three cups of regular coffee) are 26% less likely to conceive than are women who consume no caffeine. Even drinking one or two cups of coffe a day reduces the chances of conception by about 10%.
Other recent studies have confimred this and have further indicated that caffeine consumption can interrupt the menstrual cycle and lead to early pregnancy loss in some women. (smoking and alcohol consumption also reduce fertility in both men and women.) we dont recommend sustained high caffeine consumption for men either."
